Second of the two pubs on our mini crawl of Bedford’s Castle Quarter. An improvement on The Devonshire, although it’s far from being busy. Better on a Saturday night, Pete advises.
L8s joins us. We move from the front of the pub. Some lad’s bashing out Creedence on acoustic guitar. It’s ambient, but with the volume turned up too loud. Too loud for our decrepit ears; none of us hear especially well, but this evening, Pete and L8s are particularly struggling.
The lady serving behind the bar has long fingernails. I’ve noted this down, but don’t remember them being crazy long. Just long enough to get noted down in the moment, then instantly forgotten.
We move into the garden, but it quickly gets too cold for TPK. And for the rest of us, in fairness. We move back inside. Credence has been taking a break, but is soon back on it. There’s talk of how boring Bob Dylan is, live.
