1116b. Thu 2/9/21: The Hat Factory, Luton

Beer: Maltsmiths IPA 4.6%

Utter night. The second in the post 3.0 lockdown ‘after times.’ I’ve been given a much better spot this time than last, and thankfully, there’s some kind of bar service. Cashless; but I’ll take it. Far more preferable than an app.

Hit compere and Lutonian tour-de-force Lee ‘The Boy’ Nelson professes to not quite ‘feeling it’ in his opening spiel. True, the celebratory shine that wrapped the place last time is gone and that one or two tables unoccupied is enough to dampen the spirits. The sooner we get out of the vast cavern upstairs the better, is what I say.

The show itself is fine. The acts range from ok-if-a-bit-leggy to very good. Lee suggests a musical idea to me and SRW. Not sure if it’d work, or if those needed to launch such a project would be onboard. But still, the evening and the whole Utter enterprise is all about ideas and exchanges, and ideas are being exchanged.
